Peter is from Cheyenne and grew up camping in Vedauwoo, playing CSA soccer, and viciously competing with his two brothers before graduating from Central High School in 2003. Following high school, Peter attended Montana State University - Bozeman for two years before leaving college to join the United States Army. Peter was assigned to the Brigade Reconnaissance Troop, First Brigade, First Infantry Division (Big Red One). He deployed to Iraq from 2006-2007 as a Cavalry Scout gunner, serving in Northern Iraq. Peter finished his military career training military transition teams in combat proficiency and productive interaction with Southwest Asian communities. During his time in the Army, Peter earned the rank of Sergeant and, among other honors, was awarded four Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, a Combat Action Badge, a Purple Heart, and was 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. Peter left the Army in late 2008 and returned to college at the University of Wyoming, taking advantage of the Overseas Combat Veteran Scholarship and the GI Bill. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in History and a minor in Creative Writing in December of 2010, focusing his studies on the relationship between immigration, labor, and cultural identity in the American West. After graduation, Peter worked with at-risk youth in a juvenile detention and treatment center before proceeding to the University of Wyoming College of Law. While attending law school, Peter worked as a research assistant for an extensive survey of Wyoming water law, interned with the Tort Litigation Division of the Wyoming Attorney General's Office, and spent two semesters in the Defender Aid Clinic. Peter's work in the Defender Aid Clinic included handling the appeal of a felony drug conviction before the Wyoming Supreme Court and assisting in the development of oral arguments before the Wyoming Supreme Court and 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Peter excelled in his legal studies, earning the high "A" in his land use and trial practice courses before graduating with honors and accepting a position with Lathrop and Rutledge, P.C.. Lathrop and Rutledge, P.C. has provided Peter with the opportunity to gain meaningful litigation experience while also developing a well-rounded and community-based practice. Peter thoroughly enjoys living in Wyoming and making the most of recreational opportunities in the great outdoors. He and his beautiful wife live east of Cheyenne with their horses, cats, and a dog. His hobbies include hiking, traveling, cooking, reading adventure and mystery novels, refurbishing old tractors, building fence, lifting weights, and planting trees. Areas of Practice
